How Much Snow Is Too Much?

There's no single number that applies to every roof, but here's a general guide:

6–12 inches of fresh, light snow — usually fine for most roofs in good condition, but worth monitoring, especially before another storm hits
A foot or more of heavy, wet snow — this is when the real weight adds up. Wet snow can weigh two to three times more than powder, and this is the range where we start recommending removal

The Danger of Ice Dams
